Embodiment for Grief: Building Emotional and Physical Resilience

Grief affects us on every level—emotionally, mentally, and physically. In times of deep loss, the body carries as much of the burden as the heart and mind. Yet, in traditional grief support, the physical effects on the nervous system are often overlooked. That’s why this resource focuses on a more holistic approach, providing you with practices designed to support and gently regulate your body’s nervous system as you navigate grief.

Research has shown that grief triggers the body's stress response, leading to an increase in cortisol and other stress hormones. This heightened stress impacts not only our emotions but our physical bodies as well, often manifesting as tension, fatigue, and a sense of overwhelm.

These responses are natural but can feel challenging to manage. Our nervous systems can become stuck in a "fight, flight, or freeze" response, leaving us with pent-up emotional energy and a constant state of tension that traditional therapies alone may not fully address.

The videos in this series introduce simple yet effective practices—like mindful breathing, gentle movement, and grounding techniques—that work with the body to ease tension and foster a sense of calm. By engaging the nervous system in this way, these practices offer a gentle path to release some of the emotional weight and physical strain of grief, creating space for moments of rest and relief. It is my hope that these resources will help you feel a renewed connection to your body and a deeper sense of peace as you move through your healing journey.
